GERD and Heartburn

Heartburn, regurgitation, and dysphagia are the most common symptoms of GERD. However, chest pain, chronic cough, laryngitis, hoarseness, and other otolaryngologic manifestation can be the primary manifestations of the disease. Heartburn, regurgitation, consumption of H2 blockers or Barrett's mucosa were significantly more frequent for adenocarcinomas.

A 5 year survival of 100% was seen for stage I tumors. Heart burn and acid reflux disease is different. Once you have the disease, you can not cure it.
Heartburn medications control acid production in the stomach so that symptoms related to acid reflux don't occur, but these medications don't fix the anatomic cause of GERD.

For example, if the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) that normally stops stomach acid from flowing back into the esophagus is weak and stays open, acid from the stomach can push back into the esophagus, causing heartburn. Heartburn is defined as a rising, burning sensation behind the breastbone caused by reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus. Nearly everyone has or will experience heartburn on occasion.

What to Do about GERD Symptoms

Associated with your typical GERD symptoms, due to the diagnosis of LPR can be harder to find. In fact less than 15% of those affected have the heartburn. A laryngoscopy has to be diagnose and evaluate the condition.

And only your health care or your specialist can provide you with this test. So if your experiencing any of the aforementioned problems, please consult your doctor as quick as possible.
Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and pH testing are just a couple of the test you can have done. If your complaining about odynophagia or dysphagia.

To find out if the reflux is reaching your upper esophagus and to assess the pH content of the reflux, two senors are placed on each end of the esophagus. That's why its so important to set out the time and make lifestyle changes for your good health. To reduce the acid in the stomach, prescription medications like antacids are a beneficial medical treatment.

Acid Reflux some of the harsher symptoms

ACID REFLUX could cause permanent damage if you have repeated instances, which could lead to crucial and painful ingestion problems. If not treated this could destroy the lining of the esophagus.

In one case, a gentleman was chewing on a well known antacid in the UK called Rennies. And his philosophy was a good burp will get rid of ingestion. The gentleman ended up having a stomach ulcer. This story was told by a friend who in turn herself suffers from regular indigestion.

She later realized that her constant suffering was not normal. Her physician would have to send her to see a gastrenterologist and perform an endoscopy.
Endoscopy is a process when a lighted, thin tube called an endoscope is ran down the throat.

This scope sends images of the stomach, duodenum, and the esophagus, allowing the specialist to see the trouble areas and if need be, preform biopsies. This scope is inserted when the subject is sedated to eliminate throwing up.
